The answer depends on the present "state" of the drive.

If it is totally unpartitioned, use a Win98 boot disk to boot the computer. Run fdisk and create your partitions as needed.

If the drive is already partitioned in any way, you have two choices:
1. Wipe the drive completely and follow the process desribed above.
2. Purchase a thrid party partitioning utility like Partition Magic by PowerQuest (www.powerquest.com).

It depends on it is already has an operating system on it or not...

if you are starting with a new empty drive and are loading 2000 or XP on it, just put the cd in and boot the computer, it will prompt you from there to format it and create partitions of the size you want...

If you are starting with a drive that already has an operating sys on it like 98,ME, or earlier and the drive was never partitioned, then you either have to use a software like PartitionMajic(if you don't want to lose and data)...

or if you are not concerned with data loss you can simply start over..

Use a Win98 boot disk, and fdisk and format the drive and set your partitions...then you can reload 98.. etc..
