Hard Drive Problem

By christine ·
Is it possible to get data from a hard drive that cannot be accessed by the computer and who would be able to do this?

Remove the HDD and slave it to another computer ...

You can either install it inside another computer, you can put it inside a caddy and connect by USB cable, or you can get a USB trunk cable and connect it externally to another computer.

The caddy will depend on whether the HDD is a 2.5 inch, 3.5 inch, and whether it is IDE or SATA. Individual or multi-combinations are available.

The HDD can then be accessed as a storage disk, regardless of whether it has a bootable system installed on it or not.

The above will only work if the HDD is still Functional

If it has died and gone to Silicon Heaven you need to use a Specialized data Recovery House who can recover data off dead HDD's. The only one I know that is capable of doing this is Ontrack

http://www.ontrackdatarecovery.com/data-recovery-process/

But maybe the company that Seagate setup as a Recovery service can help you here
