Hard Drive seen in bios, but not when booted up?

by theobaldkevin . Updated 19 years, 2 months ago

I have a problem with a stand alone computer which runs on Win98se, two drives were fitted one for OS the other for data (as slave). I can no longer access the slave drive data for soem reason, drive spins up and is seen in bios, but does have some garbled letters etc after name now? However once computer has booted only C drive can be seen? D drive not visable in My Computer? Have tried starting with a floppy startup disk as was told MBR may be damaged or lost? With command fdisk/status or fdisk/mbr get message drive not found?

Can anyone help please as not all data had been backed up as someone had messed with back up program!! Need to access data or im in the **** as it were.

Please help

Kev
