hard drive showing -1 Mb

by shortstuff . Updated 17 years ago

Hi guys, I have a PC that failes to boot and just goes around in circles. I’ve tried safe mode, last know good configurtion etc and nothing works. I’m not getting any error messages as such so I decide to boot with ultimate boot cd 4 windows. That shows me the drive size is -1 Mb on the active partiton.
I ran a diagnostic program over it checking for bad blocks etc and that came up clean.
I cant run chkdsk because it doesnt recognise the partition.
If I run testdisk on it I can access the files so thats something. Does this sound like a corrupted MBR or can anyone point me to fixing the drive/partiton structure?
Even tho I can transfer the data using testdisk it is a slow process, so hopefully whatever I do Id like to keep the data intact.
many thanks
glenn
