Hard Drive trouble

By kal87 ·
Hi Friends,

I am having a problem with my Hard Drive. Sometime when I start my PC or its running stage It shows a msg "Boot properly, Select a proper boot device" with black screen then I have to deattach the power connector of Hard drive and re fix it again which is coming from SMPS to Hard drive. So cud you people pls suggest me weather its a power problem or my hard drive is going to crash.

You need to test the HDD with the Makers Testing Utility

If it fails the test remove the HDD and fit to another system and retest. If it still fails the test the HDD is shot but if it passes the second test the M'Board, Data Cable or Power Supply in the original Computer is Shot and need replacing.

To properly test the PS you need a Known Good Power Supply that you can use if only for a short time to make sure that your computer is working.

Another way to proceed here is to unplug the Mains Lead and hold the On Switch in for 10 Seconds to discharge the Capacitors and then plug in the Mains Lead and see if it works now. If it does the PS is on it's way out as the Filter Capacitors in it are going off and in the early stages of failing.
