Harddrive set to Read Only

By rrutledg ·
Somehow my hard drive is set to read only.
I have tried setting it back to RW using explorer. Explorer appears to going thru the files and resetting them but when I go back and look it is back to RO.

Any hints.

maybe your account somehow has read-only 'rights'. see if you can logon as 'administrator' with blank password. then examine your account (control panel/users), make sure you are added to the administrators group...
if you are not up to date on your anti-virus, i would worry about virus infection. it has been suggested here to go to www.mcafee.com and download 'stinger' to clean up virus with similar symptoms...

If this is a new hard drive that you just installed, then check the jumper settings on the drive itself. I put a scsi 36 gig in and to my surprise it had a writeprotect setting on it.
