hardisk enclosure problem(drive not appearing in My Computer)

by juzamdjinn6 . Updated 17 years, 8 months ago

hello, my hardisk does not show up when i connect it to my notebook through the enclosure. the disk is a 2.5″ SATA drive from my other notebook. i then tried connecting another SATA hardisk, but the result was the same.

in both instances, the disks did not appear under “My Computer”. however, they showed up under Disk Management, but as “unreadable”. right clicking on the disk in Disk Management gives only two options “properties” and “help”.

i then found an old IDE hardisk and connected to the same enclosure(it supports IDE and SATA). this time it worked perfectly, the drive appeared under My Computer and all the files could be accessed.

other details: OS is vista home premium, but i tried the same setup on another notebook running windows XP, to no avail.
enclosure came with external power adapter which i used, so there is definitely sufficient power for the hardisks.
also, the enclosure connects to computer by USB.

what should i do? please help! thanks!
