what is the specs of the hdd that u have?
hdd speed?
hdd capacity?
ide what? (eg. ata66/ ata100 or ....)

what mb are u using.
certain mb have limitations to the size of the hdd that can be recognised. hence even if it can be detected by the system, it may not report the correct info when u view under cmos or fdisk.

try flashing the bios to the latest version to give it a shot.

Goto IBM.com and go into their support, hard disks, follow the connection to ontrack and download the ontrack software for hard disks. create the ontrack boot disk and run on your quantum hard drive. It should then recognize it.

I'ld first try toidentify the hard drive with quantum before using ontrack and see if quantum has their own hard disk utility programs. But if you can't identify it and quantum doesn't have one then ontrack should work.

Also the jumpers have to be set a certain way on the hard disk to operate as slave or master. Make sure the jumper is set right for the way you are installing it. To find quantums website do a search from yahoo for quantum.
Good luck
