Hardrive not readable

By Minkey23 ·
I have a hard drive that cannot be found in "MY Computer". I have checked for missing drivers in Device Manager and tried different USB ports. I have rebooted with the drive connected. I still cannot open the files. I was able to open the drive this morning but now I cannot. Please advise what I can do to extract my data.

Take out the drive..

From either usb or firewire and shutdown your computer for ten seconds, then fire up your computer and then try again to attach the drive(s). Hope this helps you.

Please post back if you have more problems or questions.

Before doing anything else open Drive Management

And see if the Drive appears there.

Post back with what if anything is said about the USB Drive in Drive Management.

Also what else has then HDD been connected to? If it's been connected to a IBM Think Pad with Password Protection you need to reconnect it to that computer and remove the Password to be able to read it on other computers.

You can also use the HDD Makers Testing Utility to Test the Drive to make sure that it hasn't died since it was last used.

I'm assuming that this drive has worked previously in this USB Enclosure with the above if it hasn't post back with this information so that different suggestions can be made to help you here.
