I bought a box of roofing nails the other day.

by OnTheRopes In reply to hardware

They were $3.89+tax for a one pound box.

My SIL bought an 18v drill and saw yesterday as well as an ergonomic hammer with a magnet that holds the nail in place. Neat stuff from the hardware store, except for the nails, those are pretty boring.

Interesting

my last trip to the HW store, I bought a belt sander. Already used it too.
it is much, much faster than sanding by hand!

Random orbit sanders are great for putting a finished surface on wood.

by OnTheRopes In reply to Interesting

You can about use a decent belt sander to cut right thru a 2x4.

Havent dont that yet

I have sanded down a few things, including a shelf, cutting board, etc..
I think I want a sandblaster next. However it is not really needed.

I was also thinking when the cash is avail, to get an air compressor and air tools
But I havent been able to justify to myself for that purchase..

Watch out

Pneumatics is like photography is like cars.

I remember from 101 Dalmations the frog, when he saw the car.

"Motorcar......," enunciating every syllable.

My one suggestion for getting an air compressor-

by OnTheRopes In reply to Havent dont that yet

Buy a GOOD hose that's about twice as long as you think you'll need. I've got a 50 footer. You can always leave it coiled up but when you need the extra length it'll be there and you won't have to move the compressor which will likely have a short cord.

good to know

The thing is, I would like them, however, it is likely that I would rarely use it. That is why I dont have one. Things would I use most often come to the top of the list.
My last power tool was the dremmel tool (before the belt sander). And I use it often enough. So far, sharpening other tools, cleaning tools, polishing things. Useful little thing, and it cuts pretty well through metal too. I did a case mod using it

Those nails

by santeewelding In reply to hardware

Now you're talking. I like the big-*** ones more better than the little ones that you need a magnetic ergo-whatever to keep track.

Ah. I am filled.

I prefer different sizes of deck screws.
