hardware conflict?

By cjgobis ·
I've got a P4-3.0ghz,512mb ram,64mb video memory. My OS is win2k connected to a server. My problem is the message "unsafe to unplug device " pop-ups in my screen. I don't have any usb device plugged and it turns out the Samsung DVD/CD writer is the one having trouble. It is set to slave and i used one cable for the HDD set to primary. I noticed that system slows down while working in Arcview software. I checked the device manager and no conflicts shown. Please help. Thanks.

This is a simple setup problem where the Combo Drive should be on a different channel to the primary HDD. If they are not you'll get a major loss of performance most likely failures writing Media and there are numerous other problems that can and do arise.

It's quite possible that for some reason Windows is seeing the Combo Drive as removable storage and wants to shut it down before you can remove the media in it. Installing it to the other IDE Channel should cure your current problem and IDE leads are cheap so it's not worth the time and effort in not doing this.
