Hardware For Small Business eCom. Server

By msheriff29 ·
I want to create an eCommerce web site with shopping carts and a credit card processing capabilities. The maximum number of concurrent hits at a time will be less than 200. I am on a small budget but I want to host the site myself.

What resources do I need to get this done based on all the constraints highlighted above? Please give details.

For a site this small I would recommend that you contact an ISP and ask them to host your site for a monthly fee. Most people I now get an agreement where they develop the web pages, and the ISP handles the hardware and security (physical and IT). Otherwise you need to look at getting one or more servers to handle the web server as well as DNS and security functions.

That is an open ended question.

But you ask for a hardware recommendation. If you go cheap almost any of the newer P4 Or AMD systems with say a gig of ram and a large 200 gig hard drive will work.

The devil, they say,is in the details.Things like disk RAID,firewalls, and UPS's are all things that you should have.

The first time you get hacked or the server goes down during a busy day and you realize the orders that you have been processed since your last backup are gone, will all contribute as to what you need to ask yourself what risks you are and are not ,willing to live with.
