If you have a simple peer to peer network you will need to remove a few security features to access shares.

      1. Turn off the XP firewall on both PCs
      2. Turn on file and print sharing.
      3. You MUST duplicate account information exactly for your users between both PC’s.

Then you should be able to setup shares you can access from both PCs.

        Why turn off the firewall?

Unless you are familiar with the network setup this does not appear to be good advise.

Enabling File and Print Sharing should automatically create the exceptions in the firewall to allow this on the local network.

You can turn off the firewall to determine if this is contributing to the problem. But it should be re-enabled once you resolve the networking issues.

If you have an anti-virus package installed it may also have a firewall component that is blocking the network sharing. This may need to be disabled or reconfigured as well, as part of your troubleshooting.
