Hardware Profiles

By Megtek ·
Here is the problem: I CANNOT get my PCI modem to work at the same time as my PCI Wireless card. XP just will not configure both drivers at the same time. So my idea is to create two different hardware profiles. When I boot I can choose whether to use wireless for that session, or my modem. Can this be done? I fould a Knowledgebase article that explained how to create the two profiles. So now I have one that is "Modem" and another called "Wireless". But how do I actually configure them individually to work?

Thank you in advance.

This can be done, but I would first try getting them to work at the same time. Try changing the resources assigned to them to make sure that they are not conflicting.
To create the hardware profiles, right click on "my computer" or open control panel -- double click "system" icon.
Next go to the "hardware" tab. and double click the Hardware Profiles button.
Next copy your current profile and then rename both (i.e. "wireless" and "modem". then click OK. Back at the "hardware" tab go to "device Manager". Select either your modem or wireless card and "disable for this profile"
reboot it to the other profile and select the other "wireless" or "modem", whichever would be proper and do the same thing.
If done properly, the wireless card will be disabled in the modem profile, and the modem will be disabled in the wireless profile.
It is not hard to do, but I would first try to get both working together (I'm a nut that way I guess)
