Has anyone else noticed some strange

By HAL 9000 Moderator ·
Suggestions in the Drop Down list now on TR for Searches?

The other day when looking at a question on switching from Windows 7 to Linux I saw a suggestion on switching from Breast Milk to Formula which doesn't seem overly related to a Tech Site.

But today the one that got my attention was How to Pass a Drug Test when looking at a question on setting up File Syncing on a 2008 SBS Server.

So I guess anyone else seen some really strange suggestions in the Helpful Search Options? :^0

Here is what appeared when I was typing in this question. All very Technical I may add too.

has anyone else
has anyone eliminated their mortgage
has anyone else seen kelly
has anyone eloped has anyone else landed on the moon
has anyone else seen ghost spirit spiders
has anyone else removed earrings a week early
has anyone else had a negative test at 5 weeks
has anyone else developed mustache hair with sunless tanner
has anyone else seen kelly song

Edited to add and confuse

OK I've logged back in as HAL and here are some Screen Dumps of what I'm talking about.

OK Guys here's a Screen Dump of one

Also lately I've been noticing that URLs are broken so I'm back to using Tiny URL for the time being.

This one isn't too bad but there have been some truly weird suggestions recently.

I should have added I'm using Infernal Exploder at the moment because one client insists he needs it and I've forgotten most of it. So it could be related to that. But some of the suggestions are really strange.

Edited to add a more interesting Dump

Some seem reasonable but then they go to Septic Tanks.

Wellll, HAL,

What have you been entering into text boxes elsewhere on the internets? :^0

Try clearing your form or address bar histories.

edit: Just for reference, "ha" gets me "Hanny's Voorwerp" and "hawaii.rr.com".

Afraid not

by OH Smeg In reply to Wellll, HAL,

This is a system that has had Crap Cleaner run just before logging onto TR.

I've been seeing some really strange Search Suggestions every time I go to save a listing for what are submitted as Questions of the Weak/Week.

Been happening for a while now but the suggestions are getting stranger and stranger as time goes on. :^0

I don't get no dropdowns... at least not in the search thingy topside; am I missing something?

I thought the same

Maybe it's that Colin has finally broken through to the Alternative Universe. Worse, it talks to him.

OK try this

by OH Smeg In reply to I thought the same

Highlight the Heading of any Post right click and then click copy.

Then go to the address bar and highlight the address Bar and see what happens. :0

It's interesting.

nuffink...

the trick does nothing for me.
I just get the normal drop-down of my most frequently or recently used sites.

Have you

been too close to the airlock again? What dropdown box are you talking about?

Maybe we need a link to an image to see what is going on. :)

I think

that seanferd has hit the nail on the head. Looks to me like one of the Toolbars has taken over. Most of my clients don't even know that they are there or if they do, how they got there. lol Google Chrome gets installed as well but rarely ever used.

I had this guy complaining the other day

by HAL 9000 Moderator In reply to I think

That when I installed 3 AV products on his system I should have know it would cause problems.

Not really sure where AVG or McAfees came from as I didn't put them there but he couldn't have installed them surely. :^0

Oh and yesterday he was complaining that the AVG Icon on the Desktop had disappeared, yes he wants AVG now so that's what left on the unit and I had the Desktop from 7 with the Opera House taken from the top of the Harbor Bridge. The AVG icon was in the sails of the Opera House so he couldn't see it.

Also he didn't make the short cuts to the desktop of his Daughters photos either that moved the AVG Icon.

Honestly I spend more time cleaning up his messes but some of his comments are really funny. Things like Those Work Pop ups are getting in the way of my Porn Surfing made me laugh.
