Have a computer with XP-just recently when computer is first plugged

By higginsy ·
in power comes on. It just started doing this. A black screen comes up with info re AMI bios stuff then it resumes normal start up. If shutdown and unplugged and then plugged up another time when a couple of hours it comes on as normal. Any hints why it does this.

Ideas

The first and simplest idea is that the BIOS settings have changed to always on at power up.

The worst is that the power control circuits on the motherboard are beginning to fail.

The in between is that the power supply is starting to fail and the 5 volt standby power does not come up clean. This then causes a false start signal in the power control circuit.

I would start by checking the power settings in BIOS setup.

Then, change the power supply.

If it turns out to be the main board, you need to decide if you want to change it or replace the system.
