We recently have noticed an issue at one of our remote locations where for no apparent reason, a users’ machine will no longer have network access after “some” kind of event (not shown in the logs).
Our situation is such that the site has its own internet connection via bdsl and a connection to our main site via frame relay running into a Cisco router configured to send certain traffic to the dsl and other types across the frame. We have a Unix server at the main site that the remote users access through a telnet application across the frame relay. All users in the system are configured with static IP addresses.
Recently what will happen is that a user will lose access through the telnet client to the Unix box (connection will timeout) but still retain access to the internet and email (though this point is also not consistent). The only resolution to this is to change the IP address of the machine and then all is well again.
Can anyone shed some light on what it happening here and what can be done to resolve the problem?
