HD data transfer

By sonnytrotter ·
I had a motherboard to fry on my laptop and was wondering if there was a way to transfer files from the Hard drive to a desktop hard drive. XP pro OS on the laptop HD and XP home on the desktop. Since the laptop is inop I figured normal tranfer is out of the window. Since it has an existing OS I don't think I could place 2.5 hd in case and transfer via USB 2.0 . Any ideas???

Here's a good article on Tech Republic addressing your problem.

Adapters are available at CompUSA and probably other larger computer stores. See link below for an on-line source.

CompUSA sells a cool device that you mount a 2.5 drive like a laptop drive into. It is a USB 2.0 powered and accessed device. Install the drive make it the master buy setting the jumper plug it into the USB port of your XP desktop and look at that you can access and transfer any thing you want. The device sells for $19.95 and can be a portable drive after you are done with it.

You need a 2.5 to 3.5 ide adapter.

You can then install it as a slave drive on a desktop computer.
