HDD capacity showing 40GB against 80GB

By yeahgrp ·
Hi All,

I am having a problem with my Samsung 80GB HDD, it has started showing its capacity as 40GB but it was working as 80GB prior to restart.

Now i had tried all including samsung DM to format it back to 80GB. but i haven't succeed.

if anybody have any idea about it.

A format won't help.

If it was somehow partitioned into 2 drives, the partition will need to be deleted prior to formatting. (Or find and format the second partition).

You might wish to test the drive with the vendor's test utility, found at its website, if there are deeper problems.

There may actually be nothing wrong with the drive. Loose data cables can cause all kinds of errors and oddities.

Check to be sure your SATA or IDE cables and power cables are securely seated. Regrettably if you actually ran the Samsung DM utility you may have destroyed your data, hopefully you didn't run it.
