HDD failure

by mapp84 . Updated 24 years, 7 months ago

I’m not having a good time at the moment. First my DVD, then my laptop and now this. I copied a file to a floppy this morning, then restarted the PC. I received a BIOS warning stating that the boot sector had been modified. For some stupid reason I accepted it, and my PC now hangs at “Verifying DMI Pool Data”. An emergency boot disk reveals that the HDD is not accessible from the command prompt. Was it a virus that caused this or has the HDD died? Which scanner can I use or will I have to replace it? It worked fine until I copied the file to disk and restarted. I haven’t installed any programs or changed any settings. Thanks in advance
