HDD image 80GB tot 320 GB

By iceman5 ·
I want to help a friend to upgrade. We don't want to reinstall everything. Can I make an image of his current 80GB HDD and mount it on the new 320GB? will it create a 80GB partition on the new HDD? How do I do it? Or is there any easier way?

Depending on your imaging tool, you can just install the 80G image on the 320G drive. Ghost defaults to using the entire destination drive, although it and most other tools will allow you to specify a destination partition size if you desire.

You've got to make the image of the 80G either way, so you can play with putting it on the destination 320G until you get what you want. You're probably not using the entire 80G in the first place.

Use Acronis Disk Director

You can use Acronis Disk Director Boot CD to copy your first hard disk to the new one you have got. It will resize the partitions as well. Connect both the hard disks and boot from CD. Then use GUI to navigate and rest all..............
