Recently Microsoft asked me to update my Xp SP2 - so I did...... now I cant see the USB device when I press the button to back up. I have browsed some screens and am not that computer savvy but when I go into device manager , the USB and driver can be seen. I dont want to go and buy a new HDD until exploring if I can fix this. Disk Management

Have you tried looking in disk management?

Right click MY COMPUTER>MANAGE>Expand Disk Management

it may be that you can see the drive in here but it does not have a drive letter. Perhaps you need to assign one to it.

Is the PC part of a network that could have policies imposed on it to restrict you from viewing this or perhaps you are not logged in as someone with admin rights ?

Hi Ian
Thanks for your help. I should be administrator - but have tried browsing drives etc and think I will buy a ne backup disk which if it doesnt work will buy a new HDD - seems a shame tho as nothing wrong with this one - just my inability to navigate and knowledge of computers. Thanks vm for trying to help
