Help 32bit Vista Home Premium SP2

By mattmd ·
I have just downloaded Vista SP2 and now my PC will not boot.
Yesterday Windows Update said that the download was available so I ran the update and ran the usual install. At the end of install it said it needed to reboot so I left it to it and went to bed.
This morning the system is in a loop on boot halting at crcdisk.sys and rebooting.
I have tried loading last good config, safe mode, safe mode with command prompt (which showed the halt on crc.sys) nothing will get me into windows.
I have also tried booting from the DVD and running a system repair but this also gets stuck on boot when restarted.

Running 34bit Vista Home Premium
I have also read that AVG could interfere with the install. I did not disable this before install.

Any ideas?

If you press F8 right after POST, there should be an option to enable boot logging. Do that, and when it hangs, reboot off a CD into another OS, UBCD for example, and find (I think) boot.txt. It should list what loaded when Windows was starting. The last entry should be the problem-causing file. If it looks like a driver file, navigate to the Windows/system32 folder and rename it (don't delete it!).

Oh, have you tried the startup repair option? If you haven't, boot from your Vista DVD (hopefully your laptop came with a plain OS DVD), and there should be an option to repair, under the "Install now" button. Click that, choose your installation folder, and the Startup Repair option will check for various problems.

I also had the same problem on my Pc,but what i did was jut to formatte the Machine and instill the new operating system, I was affred of losing the data,so i did a data back up on my machine.
Then if you don't know how to do that then you can just do the data recovery using data recovery software. When your installing the new os,i advise you to make two partition and instill asoftware called deepfreez,to avoid system manupliction and virius.
