I have found/trapped myself in a serious job transistion dilema.
That is just the beginning. Here is my dilema, which I believe could be answered best by independent contractors or consultants:
This corporation, that I may go work for as a network/system administrator has been contracting out their computer services to a local consulting firm for about 2 years, and is being taken to the bank by this company, and over charging for services big time. This contractor company currently controls 3 aspects of computer functionality for the corporation. 1.) they provide Exchange/email services for all employees 2.) they provide T1/Frame Relay hosting charges for the company. 3.) they control the companies web site hosting and all generalnetwork login activity. This company wants to terminate services immediately with their providers and bring me on board. At this present time, there is no existing contract between the two of them because it has expired.
What is the best possible way for me to jump into this situation? Is it logical, ethical, or even smart to ask for cooperation from the outside contracting company? The worst case scenario is that this hiring company brings me on board, and gets all their provided servicesby the other contractor dropped like a hot potato. This leaves me to start all the affected services mentioned above from scratch, not too bad of a situation, but can be done.
I guess what I am really looking for in this already lengthy as hell question, is some advice (no matter how far fetched) and possible suggestions for a smooth migration. This includes recommendations for top notch migration tools for Exchange, recommendations for bidding or contracting out T1/Frame Relay, LAN connectivity, etc.
I appreciate any comments, suggestions, moral advice, or locations to be pointed for very good resources.
Thank you.
