what equment exacty would we need, and how do you hook a usb camera to a serial port

Sorry, you cannot use a serial port for a USB device.

Serial ports run so much slower than USB ports that it is not possible to create an interface adapter to translate data from a serial port to a USB port.

You will need to install a USB card in the computer.

For laptop computers, you need CardBus support on the PCMCIA slots to be able to install a USB card.

For a desktop, you just need to have an open PCI slot, and meet the minimum system requirements for the card.

For Windows, Windows 95 and NT do NOT support USB devices.
You need to be running Windows 98, Me, 2000, or XP to have USB support.

If you're using Win95 or NT, you're outta luck. If any other Win OS, why don't you purchase a USB card (PCI) and just connect the camera directly to it?
