HELP ASAP – Students getting past policy

    Locked

    by qultptry ·

Need help just as humanly as possible! Here’s the setup. NT SERver – 95 workstations (classroom). Policy implemented – doesn’t allow net neighborhood, remove run command, hide drives, etc etc. The biggy – user cannot bypass the logon to local with “cancel”. everything worked fine until they discovered that if you hit the “windows” key on the keyboard when win is booting it opens task manager, which then allows students to open and get to anything they want. Please help me to turn off thisfeature or disable the key on the keyboard. I would be most grateful for a quick- proven fix! Thanks

MS KB article Q181348 deals with this for NT/W2K. I don’t know wether it will work for w9x, too. If you want a secure environment, I’d recommend using NT/W2K anyway. You’ll never get W9x locked down as you can with NT/W2K.

      Sorry to say so.

I haven’t played with Win9x for a while, but I think the program is “taskman.exe”. If you rename it or move it outside of the path, it shouldn’t be accessible.

There’s probably also a registry hack to do remove it as well, but I’m not sure. Good luck.
