Help building a Network Design for Computer Dynamics

By hidef69 ·
Computer Dynamics is a microcomputer software development company that has a 300
computer network. The company is located in three adjacent five story buildings, with about
100 computers in each building. The current network is a poorly designed mix of Ethernet
and token ring (Ethernet in two buildings, and token ring in the other). The networks in the
three buildings are heavily overloaded, and the company anticipates significant growth in
network traffic. There is currently no network connection among the buildings, and this is an
important objective in building the new network.

Is this textbook?

Probably not very old.

by boxfiddler Moderator In reply to How old

It's remarkably similar to the class project I had in Intro to Networking, only three or four years ago...

A familiar situation

I see.
But the answer is, oh, so simple.

Yep it's so very simple

Move the entire 3 buildings to a new location where the network is properly designed.

Really quite simple isn't it? :0

Skunked me

You did. Like I did with Ron K and his coffee cans. This just never occurred to me.

You're right.

You skunked me.

I was thinking

On blowing up the users with a minor explosive in each monitor.

No users - No need for a network.

NA

by OH Smeg In reply to I was thinking

That might damage the Video Cards in the Computer when the Monitor Explodes.

Could get all types of Shorts before the power cuts out.

I now just point my Sonic Screwdriver at the end users and tell them that it's a Death Ray. I don't get to turn it on as the users run away and hide.

Help Please

Can you help?

No, I can't

by NexS In reply to Help Please

The whole idea of these case studies is to test your thinking/mitigation skills, not to test those of people on the internet.

The best help I can give is to sit down at the table with a pen and paper and write out all your possibilities, then pick the most effective.

How did you answer this question?

Personally I would think that this is very old with the Token Ring involved for a Software company.

But no matter what happens best not let the Teach hear about this question they might accuse us of cheating. :^0
