help – folder/file access denied

A new motherboard has been installed today and now I cannot access Windows XP Home Edition. I have reinstalled and wish to backup some data to floppy before wiping the hard drive. I can see the data I want but access to the folders and files is denied. I can access photos but not other data. Would welcome any ideas. Thanx
