help in changing registry

by geek-chick . Updated 17 years, 9 months ago

Hi all,

I’m hoping someone can help me. Here’s the thing. I have a word doc (2003) that I want to open in word 2007. However, word 2007 has blocked it so I cant open up files created in an earlier version. Looked up on the microsoft site for a solution. Found one, but having a little difficulty. I think its for windows xp, I have windows vista business on laptop.

In the suggested solution, (after typing regedit in run), need to locate the subkey:

HK_CURRENT_USER\Software\Policies\Microsoft\
Office\12.0\Word\Security\FileOpenBlock

However, on vista, the file is set a little differently, as follows:

HK_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\12.0\Word\Security

I am a little unsure where to go from there.
Do I select Security, then create a new key called FileOpenBlock in the edit menu?

I dont want to do something thats going to mess things up

greatly appreciate any ideas

cheers
nm
