while installing a new hard drive due to the death of the old one, i encountered the error message “510-splash screen image corrupt. the splash screen image has errors. run rompaq to restore the default image in the system rom”.
i do not seem to be able to find a bios that will install in dos, as i have no OS to boot to. i have a Hewlett Packard Compaq (187498-001) Motherboard. the only versions i have found are windows installers. the current system rom is 686p2 v1.13. i am running a p3 933, 512mb ram. i was running xp pro when the hd died. the hd began to make a “clicking ” noise, followed by frequent blue screens and lockups. i installed another hd and tried to install xp again. after booting from the cd drive with the xp install disc i received this error message. “Boot: memory overflow error. please insert another disc.” being unsure what do at this point, i placed the new hd into my other computer and performed a clean install and returned the hd. this is when the 510 error occurred. this machine had win98se when i bought it. when i installed xp the first time, i had to remove the disc during each reboot before the install could continue. i would receive the “boot: memory overflow error. please insert another disc.”
