I need some help justifying the costs of a keypad lock on my server room door (easy, right?). Here are a few things that are currently problems:
A) New cleaning staff (who can’t even speak english, not that that implies lack of knowledge, trust, etc.) even have unrestricted access to this room. This new cleaning staff are the ones that left a large trash can in the hallway this weekend, and in the first couple of weeks left ALL office doors open and unlocked. That’s right, someone could just walk in and take what they wanted!!!
B) We’ve been broken into before, very recently
C) Recently someone walked in, during the day mind you, and stole a machine from one of our offices, because the individual that was in here just left in unlocked when I was out. He, “thought I would be back soon” and that “he was only in the bathroom for a matter of a minute” (I said “thinking”, didn’t I?)
D) Nobody but myself and ONE other person need access (and he only needs it if I am not here)
The MOST absurd aspects of this situation are:
1) there is a key in the front desk that has access to all doors, and it’s in the top drawer, y’know “HIDDEN”
2) With the swath of recent thefts in the building, they are now getting keypad locks for the three main entrances to the office areas off of the hallways, but NOT for my server room.
3) A FedEx guy was even allowing to walk/wheel something right into the room, wet shoes and all (from the snow) just yesterday. AND, the thing was a damn filing cabinet, not even for me, just for someone’s office. The guy I work with wanted it in there because the bottom of it was messy, and he didn’t want to put it on the carpet, so he thought the wet messy bottom of the box surrounding the cabinet would be better in the server room.
Anyone want to help me out here on what the HELL I could possibly say to convince people that this is a necessary item?
