You'll need to reset the BIOS and FLASH it with an update

by Oz_Media In reply to help me with IBM ThinkPad ...

IBM is known for laptop security, this is a big strength of thiers. I have grown quite fond of Thinkpads for thier security measures yet they can also get annoying can't they!?

You will need to download the Hardware Maintenance manual from here:

You MAY have SVP (Supervisor Password) active and you can get in by just using the SVP for it, if not you will need to reset as per the instuctions and reset the system board.

Resetting the the Power On Password (POP)first entails removing the system board battery , see page 64.

Then go back to page. 30 and it will walk you through resetting the password.

This online manual is a BIBLE for Thinkpads, it contains ALL Field Replacement Unit (FRU) instructions. This is what the IBM techs use before doing on site service, they are kind enough to make them available to users and let you practically rebuild your notebook if needed.

Good luck, post back if you need anything else.
