help my comp is totally messed up

every time i try and open any file of any type it keeps saying that it needs winzip32.exe to open it and that file cannot be found eeven though i have run virus checkers and it still will not work what do i do how can i fix the problem i cant even open a word document please please please help me thank you simon whitley

It sounds like the W32.Nimda.A@mm virus.
Go to

www.symantec.com/search/

Search for and download the recovery tool. Here is the URL:

Even if you no longer have the virus, it has damaged your file associations.

You can try re-loading Windows over itself. It may correct the problem.

One of the PCs that I support had a similar problem when it caught the FunLove virus.
We ended up wipeing the hard drive and starting over.

If they dont have a zip extention than it is a virus that damaged your file extentions like TheChas says

I remember seeing something similar some time back, caused by a virus. In this particular case, the virus (SirCam) modified a registry key so that every time you tried to open any file whatsoever, it would say that a certain file was not found...
The registry key affected and cleanup instructions are located at the URL mentioned below, good luck!

I have also seen something similar. Very similar to the W32 virus that DKlippert and TheChas had mentioned.
Symantec is your best option for a quick fix. The fix is a small application and easy to use.
