Help needed - I have been given a new PC with Vista Loaded?

By microswitch ·
I have been given a present of a new PC with Vista already Loaded. All my current Documents and Apps on my current PC are XP based.
I am having trouble transferring my Apps/docs to the new machine so consequently, it is next to worthless? Am I missing something? Am I doing something stupid?

If I cant use my current Apps with Vista, can I load XP onto my new machine over Vista and then just load my current apps/docs on my new machine?
Is this too simple or should I take care?
Please help.

I'm not sure why you're having problems

Almost all applications that will run under XP will also run under Vista. All you need to do is install them from the original CDs / DVDs onto your new system. Then copy the files from your XP system's "My Documents" folder to the "My Documents" folder on the new system.

Exactly what applications are giving you problems? What error messages are you getting when you try to install them?

Palmetto,
Thank you for your reply. Of course you were right. I had been getting an error when I tried to install which stopped me proceding but after reading your email I choose ignore and went on with installation. All went OK, I suspect I was gettin Vista type blocks.
Ta again.
