Help, please undeleate Groupwise!

By cdb ·
Okay, Our user has gone for one year. Thinking I could regain some space, I deleted his Groupwise account. I have not deleted him as a user on the system. Now, they tell me they need his "to do " list! I've retrieved a copy of the "wpdom.dm"? file, yet, when I insert it it is refused as a sharing violation. So, do I have to shut down Groupwise within the system? or do I have to shut down the system itself? Then when I get his "FID" # what do I do with it? I've downloaded tons of "white" papers and they are all in "Greek" Do I have to go to a "command line interface" to do this?
Please Be specific. Thank you Chris

Help, please undeleate Groupwise!

Look for more TIDS. There is one that is very simple, and goes through it step by step. It's hard to find, though. I can't remember the exact steps, as I only have to do this about once a year. Usually, the TIDS refer to archiving and reimporting an entire mailbox, which doesn't necessarily apply to you. (If your backup program doesn't back up the entire groupwise databases, you obviously won't have success.)
You may be able to connect to the old GW domain databases, and just print out the "to do" list, if they don't need everything else.

You should be able to do this by restoring the old GW domain directory, and connecting to it with the client. You will have to add a switch to the client shortcut executable to direct it to the old post office. Or, just log in as the old user, and it won't find the user's Groupwise account, and you will be able to direct it to the old GW domain directory (just remember to point it back to the real GW after you are done).

I'm sorry I couldn't provide more detailed answers, but I only have to do this about once a year.

If you've deleted his groupwise account, then you're screwed.

For security reasons, Novell did not previously allow individual users to be restored. Netware 6 has changed that.

What you would need to do is restore the whole domain (on anotherserver obviously) and then connect to it, and sign in as him, and copy the to-do list.

Unless this was a company president or something, this will be expensive and simply not worth doing.

You will need...
A new server to restore GW onto.A workstation isolated from your production network.
Time to install Netware and then Groupwise (Don't forget to patch it to the same level as your backup copy of the Database) Then to restore the Groupwise Database. Then connect from the desktop, and pull off whatever you need.

Sucks to be you...
Kev.

It's really nowhere near as bad as the previous poster states. It's a pain, but you certainly don't have to do a netware/groupwise install on a spare system. Check out TID 10010473, there are 3 separate procedures listed, you need to do number 3.The hardest thing about this is simply restoring your Groupwise PO directory to a temp location. If your PO was set to "Client/server only" access mode there are a few extra steps, but since that is not a default install option you should be OK. Once the PO directory is restored, you simply use the /@u-? command line option when starting the client and change the PO path to your temp directory then login as the user. From there you can archive/export as needed.
