Greetings,
I am attempting to setup a VPN for a small education service center for which I am the Technology Director. I have a dedicated server that I am using for the task. The server is running Windows NT 4.0, SP 6, with the RRAS service from Microsoft. The server has two NICs, one with a LAN address (no default gateway specified) and the second with a WAN address (default gateway specified). I have 10 VPN ports created and an IP pool for client addressing.
The client I am attempting to connect with is running Windows 98 SE and is configured to log on to my domain. I have successfully connected to a VPN with this machine before. I created a VPN connection for my server in Dial-Up networking.
When I attempt to connect, I receive an error 650, the server you are attempting to connect to does not respond to a network request (or something to that affect). I am using compatible protocols on both the server and client. I am able to ping the server’s external IP address when connected to the Internet. I have attempted connections with PPTP filterning enabled and disabled. I have attempted various levels of authentication. All to no avail.
Any thoughts or suggestions?
Ryan
