Help! Trouble to connect desktop to TrendNet router

by merlinnever . Updated 16 years ago

Hi I have problem to connect my desktop (Dell machine, WinXP) and TrendNet TEW-432BRP router. I have tried different ways — call TrendNet, google, asking around etc, but still can not figure out the problem. Any of your suggestions will be highly appreciated!

Some background information here:
1. My desktop is kind of old, around 5-year. It doesn’t have wireless feature. It’s OK if I connect it directly to the cable modem. But it never works with the connection method “desktop — router — modem”.

2. I tried my new laptop, both the wired connection and wireless connection to router is fine. So I guess that ruled out the router problem, right?

3. I’ve manually set up desktop’s IP address, as well as subnet, gateway & DSN IP. This solves the previous “limited network connectivity” msg. Now my desktop has the network icon looks fine, I can ping localhost or desktop’s own IP, but not the DSN or gateway IP. My browser can not go any internet page.

4. I’ve changed my old internet cable so it has the same color sequence in both end.

So, any suggestions about other things I can try? Thank you!
