Hi all-
I’m hoping to find a genius or a miracle here.
I’m installing 98SE on a Compaq which previously had 98. It’s a new hard drive, as well. That all went fine. I have all MS updates & AVG.
I browsed the Compaq restore CD & copied over the video driver folder. I did a safe mode install of the standard VGA driver first. I run the setup.exe & the Trident video installs, asks to restart, & I have the video perfect!
The problem is that it won’t stay after a restart. I’m back to an unchangeable 640×480 screen. Device Manager reports “all is well”- & shows the proper adapter.
