Help w/login

by mike o . Updated 24 years, 8 months ago

With Win2K (Pro in this case, if it matters), we’re having an odd log-in problem. First, correct me if I’m wrong, but is the Default Profile the one used whenever anybody new logs into the system? For example, I add Joe Blow in the user manager. Doesn’t the Default Profile become his profile until he starts making tweaks on it?

Second problem we’re having is it’s denying us from logging in people. It’s saying it’s unable to copy certain Start Menu items (of which there appear to be none–my boss has tried removing the shortcuts from it) and says it’s unable to create a profile. Then it dumps us back to a login screen. Any ideas? Part of it seemed to be tied to the “Take Ownership” user right, which we granted only to Administrators. Could that be what’s blocking it? And if so, what exactly does this permit them to take ownership _of_? All files? Or is it only files they create?

For example, we plan on denying a Microsoft Money directory to everyone but a specific user. Could the other people take ownership of the directory and then do what they want with it if we grant them rights to take ownership?

Thanks!
Mike
