I have never had a problem like this. Windows XP SP2 is giving me a fit on one of my machines. I have run all kinds of tests on the hardware, including hard drive diagnostics, system tests, and virus scans and no problem has been found. I feel like I may have a corrupt Windows installation. The problem that started this whole process is system freezes. System just stops and takes about 5 reboots to work, and that’s in safe mode. I tried to reinstall using a windows XP cd. It made it to the point of me selecting repair etc and the keyboard would not work. I tried 3 keyboards and they all stop at that point. I’ve tried repair disks that boot and allow different diagnostics to run and I can’t find a problem/The mouse/keyboard works fine with all the diagnostics. The hard drive is intact with all files still there. The mouse/keyboard works fine with them. I’ve backed up the drive but I’m afraid to format it because if windows quits at that point then I may never get it installed. The machine is a HP 734 n wi 1 gig ram and 2400 processor. Also the machine will not let me do a system restore with the HP system restore feature. Can anyone help me? If more info is needed please let me know
