    Help – Windows wont load!

    Locked

    by hrcsort-xp ·

I have a PC to fix for someone. The Mother board has a problem and has been replaced. Unfortunately this is of a different type and has more RAM – its own network card etc.

When I attempt to boot Windows XP I get a screen which says that windows did not start sucessfully and gives options for the type of load – none of these work. I can boot from the Windows XP CD – one of the options will allow me access to the windows directory on the disc to fix it! But I haven’t a clue how to – because I don’t know whats wrong!

By the way its an OEM version of XP Home.

A repair installation of XP is in order. Need to allow XP to recognize and accomodate new hardware.

Here are instructions for repair install.

re-installing it is da only solution. U start like uare doinga fresh install when it searches for previously installed version of windows, ur old installation will be detected. U’ll then be asked to repair it or do a clean-install. Choose R to repair it. The proceeding prompts are as easy as eating a banana. I hope u r helped

It is called an inplace upgrade.

It is described in the microsoft knowledgebase article.

Essentially this is a reinstall of the OS, but it keeps the program installations intact.
