Help! Windows XP won't start

By buckadamzzz ·
Hi,
My PC won't start in Windows XP or Safe mode. If I try to start my pc normally, it gets to the Windows XP logo screen with the blue progress line at the bottom, but not past that. The blue cursor continues moving indefinetely.

I have tried to start the pc in Safe mode, but that won't work either. I run through the necessary steps and finally come to a blank/black screen with a white cursor at the top-left part of the screen. That's it.

ALso tried to start in a couple other modes, such as Last known good config and Repair mode, but nothing works.

By the way, my problem may have something to do with the fact that I just installed Norman antivirus software while already having an old and unrenewed Norton antivirus software installed on my pc.

Please help!

Thank you in advance,

Buck

Do a fresh install of XP.

If you have data on your drive then take it out and replace it with a new drive, once you have loaded on XP then reconnect your old drive and then you can get your files/folders/music and docs.

Please post back if you have more problems or questions.

If you have

the XP cd, put it in and run an XP repair

If this does not work, you may need to backup your data and do a clean install.

If you have a M$ Install CD you can do a Repair Install

But if you only have the Computers makers Recovery CD you can not do this as they are a Slipstreamed copy of part of the Complete Windows Install CD.

However a few thoughts as you made no mention of which version of XP you are actually using you need to know this. If you have XP pro and have Encrypted your Data you can not proceed as you will destroy the Encryption Key and loose all your Data. If you have a current Backup that isn't Encrypted or you have backed up your Encryption Key not a problem but if you haven't you do have a serious problem now as it's very hard to recover your Data.
