If cost is an issue check out lansweeper. For Server monitoring, I just started using lansweeper and Quest Spotlight. Spotlight is a great tool for SQL server monitoring as well

Paessler PRTG

by saritasa In reply to Help with a selection of ...

I Recommend Paessler PRTG, it works really well - and have HUGE selection of sensors (SNMP or WMI or SSH2 based etc) to choose from. Like CPU, Memory, Disk, VMWare, IO, Networking, Http, HTTPs, Applications, Custom SNMP sensors - so you have endless flexibility. They have ability to monitor external networks through REMOTE PROBE

Version with 100 sensors is around $499 or so. We use it to monitor our servers in various collocation facilities across globe. Works really really well. We monitor windows & linux based servers and related networking equipment.

Their support is fast and detailed. PRTG runs on Windows and offers you - desktop, mobile (xhtml5) and web interfaces.

Before that we were using Nagios and PRTG is like Mercedes vs cheap "unknown" car compared to Nagios. But nagios is free. PRTG can be managed by and ANY IT Person. While Nagios requires a lot of Skills.
