So, I bought a refurbished Dell Optiplex GX50 which came with no OS and no CD-ROM drive. I have installed both an OS and CD-Rom drive before so was confident I could do it. Well, it seems I overestimated my abilities! LOL The Bios settings only has boot options for the C: or the floppy drive. So, I can’t figure out how to get the CD Drive installed pre-OS. I find on Microsoft’s webpage where I can download XP onto 6 floppy diskettes. Great, downloaded them and try them and on disk #2 I get an error message and according to the info I find, I need to reset the Bios to factory settings or the memory stick is bad. So I swap out the memory and I still get the error message. I don’t know how to reset the Bios to factory settings and I don’t know how to install a CD drive pre-OS so that I can install the OS from my disk? Oh, I also had a old Win98 boot disk that asked me to start with cd support and it said no valid drives were installed. Any ideas? I feel like I’m missing something really obvious but don’t know what it is. This computer really only needs to surf the web and do basic word documents. It’s mostly for my kids. Thanks for any help you can offer!
