Help with HP510 and Conexant AC-Link Audio, please!

Any IT speciliasts out there with experience of HP laptops?

My laptop started getting the jitters and I ended up having to defrag. Did this several times. Then it wanted to be re-booted. Did this several times – each time the system stayed up for a shorter and shorter period until it would no longer complete the boot up process. So, I realised that I had to do a complete system ‘re-set to factory settings’…

Three whole days now I have been trying to re-install and restore. The laptop is an HP510 using the Conexant AC-Link Audio. I manage to get the system up and running but absolutely NO audio. I must have done this 5 or 6 times already. Then I discover the audio won’t work so I download ALL drivers from the HP site and start installation. I have tried doing this under Windows and in Safe Mode. This is a long and arduous process that takes hours to complete. Each time, with the same end result. All the drivers seem to load and show SUCCESS as a result yet the audio still won’t work. The only explanation is ‘This device cannot start. (Code 10).’? What is Code 10??

If I check the Resources tab in Properties it just states ‘This device isn’t using any resources because it has a problem.’ I presume that means then that there cannot be a resource conflict problem…

The laptop is only 9 months old and still under its 1 year warranty but I cannot seem to find a way to contact HP and ask them for their advice – if they can even give any.

If you can help, please DO!

Thanks
