HELP WITH IE 6

By tayoajayi ·
Hello,
After installing IE 6 I can't open any of the Microsoft Windows 2000 Official Curriculum (MOC) Trainer materials
CD. It kept on saying I should upgrade. What should I do. I was able to open them with IE5.5
I'm an MCT

HELP WITH IE 6

by Paul D. Masley In reply to HELP WITH IE 6

I believe that at this point in time, IE6 is still in beta format. I do not recommend installing any beta programs on a critical issue computer, regardless of the explanation. As an MCT, you just learned a very valuable lesson. Do not jump on the"UPGRADE" bandwagon just because some silly-a$#ed program says that you should. A test should have been performed in your lab on a box setup just for testing new software.

I know that this sounds a little harsh, but the school of "Dead Boxes" has taught me to be very careful.

Paul.

Now that "That" is out of the way, see if you can do an un-install of IE6. If so, completely remove it, but before your system reboots, you will need to finish cleaning it out of the registry. Be very careful here. Backup the registry before doing this. After your cleanup, then install IE5.0, then updrage to 5.5 with SP2. This should solve your problems.

Paul.

unload 6.0 asap. it blows. i reloaded win2k pro to get rid of it. your best bet is to do the same, if possible.
note: before re-loading or erasing with win2k pro, make sure no files are encrypted for security, they will be unavailable in the newly-loaded o/s.
