Help with Mandatory Profiles

by philldmc . Updated 22 years, 9 months ago

I am trying to create a Mandatory profile for the students at the school I work at. Each student has their own user name and password.

I want each student to have the same exact settings. Same networked printer and same IE settings (proxy settings).

Based on Microsoft article(s) 323368 and 307800. This can be done with Mandatory profiles. However, I’m running into a small issue.

I have created a shared folder on the Server called “Mandatory” and the group “everyone” has all rights to that folder. I created a test user in the AD.

I signed in on a WindowsXP Pro Client as the test user and set every thing the way I wanted to. Desktop settings, printers, Ie, etc.

I loged off that system and loged on as the domain administrator. I went to system and to the user profile area. I “copied” the profile of the test user to the “mandatory” folder on the server. I did get a prompt to over ride the directory and all went fine. However, When I try to set “Permitted to Use” and copy over I get an error saying “can not delete the directory “mandatory”. I only get this error when I select “Permitted to Use”

I’m able to export the profile if I do not select “permitted to use”.

What am I doing wrong…
