Help with my MS XP PROFESSIONAL OS please!

By jssmi765 ·
I am running a Dell Dualcore with windows XP. My problem began with a virus, "Your Protection" virus to be specific. I don't know how it got past my Windows Security Essentials and Malwarebytes, but it did and it shut them down. I used my laptop to research it and found the HKEY, etc. files to delete and it seemed I got it, but there was something else slowing down my computer. I couldn't re-load my virus protection and the computer kept stalling. Upon one restart attempt, Windows failed to load and I got the message:

"Windows could not start because of a computer disk hardware configuration problem.

Cound not read from the selected boot disk. Check boot path and disk hardware.

Please check the Windows documentation about hardware disk configuration and your hardware reference manuals for additional information."

First, I tried the fix-it steps on Microsofts help page: .

Method 1: I can't rebuild the boot file because I can't open windows (I don't know what moron put that step in considering the whole reason there is a problem is because I can't start windows)

Method 2: From Recovery I tried: bootcfg /rebuild.

Method 3: I tried to enter the command: expand
\i386\ntkrnlmp.ex_ C:\Windows\system32\ntoskrnl.exe but the computer returned the response: "The system cannot find the file or directory specified."

Method 4: I ran CHKDSK /R

Nothing worked so I looked further and found a reccomendation of running from Recovery: bootcfg /add then fixboot for C: ... no help there.

I then used the recovery DVD to "repair the selected WindowsXP installation"... twice. Nothing.

Then I purchased Fix-it Utilities 10 and created a recovery CD... it won't load.

I then ran a systems diagnostics on the OS the Hard Drive and the DVD drive, no problems.

I still can't get windows to start. HELP!!!
