help with usb booting on an IBM Pro300A_AFP motherboard?

by zack247 . Updated 16 years, 2 months ago

hi i want to boot off of a flash drive without a hard drive, (laptop hdd’s and adapters are expensive) but with a usb flash drive. i have a 128mb flash drive from staples, and i followed the instructins on pendrivelinux.com and installed puppy linux on it. the problem is, that it wont boot on my IBM pro300a_AFP 3.1 motherboard. i cant install a regular hard drive due to space issues, so i figured i could boot from a usb thumb drive. i have the bios set for usb device boot, but it isn’t recognized in the area for the usb device in the bios. i was wondering if anyone could help me figure out what it is i’m doing wrong? is it the flash drive? is it the motherboard? both? software? bios revision? can someone please help me get this working?

PS: it has a pentium 3 processor,(i am trying to update the bios so i can install a celeron) 256mb of ram, and a 300w power supply. if you want to see the computer itself, go here: http://www.instructables.com/community/my-smallest-computer-build-HELP-WANTED/ (read the updates, not the original post)
