Help with Windows Remote Desktop

By dean.hepworth ·
I would like to control my home computer from work using Windows Remote Desktop, I don't know that much about computers so if anyone could help me in easy steps. I'm running Windows XP Pro on my home computer with a Netgear 834GT modem & router.

Thanks

you should open a port from your modem. After that, you should enable remote connection property of your computer by right clicking my computer->properties->remote and the secondtab checkbox. Then, open your regedit and set the port number value (decimal) to the value you assigned on your modem. The port number value is under, hkey_local_machine>system>currentControlSet>control>terminal Server>winstations>rdp-tcp

If your firewall open set remote desktop enabled. Hope it helps, Good luck

from work to home connection?

there's 2 ways I can say:

1. read about SSL VPN

or/

2. you'll need to know your IP Address at home...
connect to your home PC by remote desktop but by using the home IP Address.. you'll be able to do this if you have a static IP on your home PC... contact your local ISP for static IP.

Yep.

I would use the home IP address as well.

To connect and view your home PC I would use a free program call Ultra VNC (www.uvnc.com), it's not that hard to install and works like a charm.
